2010-02-01 - Multipette 30th Birthday Photo Contest Winners Congratulations to Sara Carreira (centre) and Laura Cartwright (right) who were chosen as Eppendorf winners! In 2009 the Eppendorf Multipette celebrated its 30th birthday. To mark this momentous milestone Eppendorf ran an online photo contest entitled "My Multipette and Me". Entrants were invited to get creative and this is exactly what Sara and Laura accomplished with their aptly entitled submission, "Cakepette". Sara and Laura are Healthcare Scientists from Bristol Initiative for Research of Child Health (BIRCH) at St. Michael's Hospital. When they are not studying placental transport and toxicity of environmental pollutants, mainly non-dioxin like PCBs and nanoparticles, they like to practice their cake baking skills. The Eppendorf jury were very impressed with the creativity and inspiration behind "Cakepette". The Eppendorf Multipette is not an obvious instrument to make into a cake so Sara and Laura's skillful efforts were greatly admired. Eppendorf Product Specialist, Angeline de Hartog, was pleased to award Sara and Laura with a special cake, box of chocolates and flowers. The lucky winners commented "We have optimised a cell culture model to mimic the human placental barrier in vitro. This model is a fantastic rapid screening tool to study placental transport of a variety of compounds. The Eppendorf Multipette contributes a great deal to the model being used in a rapid and reliable way, which is why we wanted to duly celebrate its 30th birthday!" Eppendorf would like to thank Sara and Laura for their time, creativity and dedication. We wish them much success in the future, both with their research and also with their cake creations!
